Tags instead of folders
Hive uses one level of groups for sharing, then tags for everything else. A link can carry many tags at once, team tags shared with the group and private tags only you see, so you can find it from any angle instead of digging through folders.
Add to Chrome, it's freeGraphs, not trees.
Folders make you pick one place for a link, then dig for it. Hive keeps one level of groups, which is what you share, and lets tags do the rest. A link can be home, family and finance at the same time, and you find it from any of them.

Team tags everyone in the group shares, plus private tags only you see.
How it works
- Open a link's settings in the Hive popup.
- Add team tags the whole group shares, or personal tags only you see.
- Turn on tag sections to see the group's links sorted under their tags.
- Search for a tag name to see every link that carries it.
Bookmarks were never a tree
Folders force a decision every time you save something: where does this go? The tax form is about money, but it’s also about the family, and it’s also something you need this month. A folder can only hold it in one place, so you pick one, and six months later you dig through Work, Finance, 2024 and Q3 looking for it.
Real information doesn’t sort into a tree. It forms a graph: one link connected to several ideas at once. Hive is built around that.
Groups for sharing, tags for everything else
Hive keeps exactly one level of groups. A group is the unit you share: Product with your team, Family with your partner, Reading just for you. There are no folders inside folders, because nesting doesn’t help sharing and only hides things.
Inside a group, tags do the organizing. A link can carry as many tags as it needs:
- finance because it’s about money,
- family because it’s the household budget,
- new because you added it this week.
Each tag is a way back to the link. Look under any of them and it’s there.
Two layers: team tags and personal tags
Every link has two tag layers.
Team tags belong to the link and every member of the group sees them. They’re the shared vocabulary: docs, infra, meetings, onboarding. Groups can manage their tag list so the team uses the same words.
Personal tags belong to you. Nobody else sees them, even on links in a shared group. Mark the on-call schedule my-oncall, or tag the roadmap to-read, without cluttering the group for everyone else.
Tag sections in the popup
Turn on tag sections and the links in a group are laid out under their tags, with a link appearing under each tag it carries. It’s the quickest way to see a group by topic instead of as one long list. Links without tags gather under their own heading, so you can see what still needs sorting.
Tags in search and in Hive Mind
Search matches tag names, so typing fin shows every link tagged finance as its own section at the top of the results. And Hive Mind, in the Hive Console, draws the whole thing as a map: your links, your tags and the lines between them, so the graph your bookmarks always were becomes something you can see and explore.
Moving from folders
You don’t have to rebuild your old folder tree. Start with a handful of groups for the people you share with, then add tags as you open links. Within a week the links you use most will be tagged, and the folders you used to dig through won’t be missed.
Tags are on every plan, with up to 10 team tags and 10 personal tags on each link. See plans
Questions about bookmark tags
Why does Hive have only one level of groups?
Because a group is what you share. Keeping groups flat makes sharing simple and predictable, and tags do the organizing that nested folders used to do.
What's the difference between team tags and personal tags?
Team tags belong to the link and everyone in the group sees them. Personal tags belong to you; nobody else sees them, even on links in shared groups.
How many tags can a link have?
Up to 10 team tags, and up to 10 personal tags for each person.
Are tags available on the free plan?
Yes. Tagging is available on every plan.
Can I see how my tags connect?
Yes. Hive Mind, in the Hive Console, draws your links and tags as a live map so you can see how everything connects.
